Who doesn't love end of season sales?

October is the end of the gardening season here in SW Ontario, but that doesn't mean I am done planting?  I mean, some places are practically throwing these plants into my car at these prices.  I know it is a little riskier, hoping that these tender newbies root down enough to survive the coming winter-pocalypse, but I have to try.

These are a few of the beauties that I have snagged at deeply discounted prices, and I am looking forward to seeing them again in the spring.

This is Agapanthus (African Lily) 'Blue Yonder'.  It is the first Agapanthus that I have seen rated down to Zone 5!  Here in 6A, we should be ok.  It has nice green strappy foliage and striking cobalt-blue flowers held on tall dark stems.  We saw these at Garden Walk Buffalo and my radar has been 'pinging' ever since, looking for one.  High hopes for this fellow.

Another one that has been on my list for a long time, but never had the space or budget for previously is Fargesia Rufa.  I found this nice clump at Bordine's (Rochester Hills, MI) near work.  It is is a nice clumping variety and we do not need to worry about it being overly invasive.  It should mature into a 3-4' plant and nicely fill in this corner under my office window.

I found this unnamed Brunnera at a local garden centre for $7.  I think it is Queen of Hearts, but it was unlabeled.  I lost one last year during the winter, so for a small investment, I am willing to try again.

Another one lost last year during the winter is Hakonechloa 'Beni Kaze'.  This one was also found at a local garden center for a small price.  I like how it mirrors the bamboo, planted close by.

Finally, this is Iris ensata (Japanese Iris) 'Angel Mountain'.  I plucked a pic off the internet to show the flower that we can hopefully expect next spring.  For $20 USD, I thought it was a great deal and I plan to split this into at least 3 different plants next year to use across the yard.

I am not saying I'm done for the year, but these are the deals I have found so far.
