2022 Hostas A, B, C
I have been wanting to document the Hosta collection all year, and finally took the time last night to walk around and gather all the pictures. I will share several posts over the next days listing them alphabetically.
Here are Hostas A-C:
Abiqua Drinking Gourd is a classic old school variety. It will get nice and big on the corner of the walkway and display its cupped leaves for years to come. This one was purchased at Bordine's in Rochester, MI.
Alligator Shoes was purchased from Sipken's locally here in Sarnia. As this one matures, it will develop nice corrugation on the leaves and get to about a medium/large size.
Alli-cat is a self named streaker that I purchased from a new friend this year. It is a cross of an unnamed streaker from Riverbend Gardens along with Alligator Alley. It is already starting to show some nice cupping of the leaves, and the streaking seems quite stable.
I am a sucker for the Niagara Falls line of hostas, seeing that I grew up there. This is Angel Falls, a really nice medio-variegated hosta with some piecrust edging. Should grow into a nice sized plant by the front fence line. From DeGroot's in Sarnia.
Autumn Frost is a must have, in my opinion. It has brilliant yellow/chartreuse edge variegation and brightens up the whole corner of the garden shed garden. This one came from DeGroot's here in Sarnia.

Beyond Glory is a great plant. It has almost shiny leaves with a great variegation. It has done very well in our 'deep dark woods' garden and lights up the corner. This was picked up from the great Hosta Choice Gardens, in Appin, ON.
Blue Mouse Ears is another classic. This small piece was picked up at Bill Gibbons' place near Innerkip. Bill's gardens are drool-worthy and the conversation is worth the trip alone. He has been there for 40 years and some of the plants he has are amazing, in both size and scale for the property. If you ever get the invite, you must see his gardens.
Bridegroom is another from Bill Gibbons. Its twisty turn-y leaves are a signature of this small - medium hosta.
Another classic - Brother Stefan. Been around for years, but still holds its own, for sure. This one comes from DeGroot's in Sarnia.
Choko Nishiki is an often debated variety. It has another name - On Stage, but it is widely believed that the original name is Choko Nishiki, out of Japan. I am keep a close eye on this one...not sure if it is sick or just sun tired. This was purchased from a young man in Strathroy, ON that I met through Facebook.
Coast to Coast is a fairly recent variety, although I am a little suspicious how small this one is after planting it last fall. The color alone though makes it very special. I will keep an eye on it next year, maybe it needs to be re positioned in the yard. Coast to Coast was purchased at DeGroot's here in Sarnia.

Finally, rounding out the A, B, C category is Colored Hulk. This has coloring very similar to Whirlwind (which I also have) and starts out with a misty white/green center, eventually turning all green, as can be seen in this photo from August. This one was purchased at Hosta Choice Gardens.
