'Back' to the future
First 18 holes of the season are in the bag, as they say, and so is my back. We have been doing a lot of landscaping, including lifting hundreds of pounds of rock and soil around the yard. I thought maybe the walk of a nice long afternoon in the sun would help to loosen up what was already becoming a sore and tight lower back. Three rounds of muscle relaxers and 4 Miller Lites later, I was feeling pretty good...until the ski lift holes. You see, the course we played is built on an old small ski resort, and holes 16/17 are Par 3s up and down the side of what is probably only a bunny slope, but for a 45 year old tricky back, enough to send it into spasm. The 1.5 hour car ride home was excruciating, with non stop spasming. I managed to drag myself into the house and straight to a horizontal position, in which I pretty much remained until I was able to get an emergency appointment with a local chiropractor. I had visited him before, in fact almost a year to the day, for the exact same issue and he had me up and vertical within the first visit. This was quite humbling for me, as I have always thought of chiropractors as one slippery slope away from quackery. But, I cannot lie, his treatments (stimulation and laser therapy) certainly work well with my big ole body. Fortunately, my body remembers this treatment and again has responded amazingly to it this year. I am forever thankful for those who are good at their craft, and especially when the results are so effective. Thank you Dr. Anning. Here's looking forward to a looser back and another gardening weekend coming up.
