I love it when a plan comes together

Well, we have a blank slate, and we have a plan.  We have decided to renovate the backyard this year, and plans are mostly developed for what we hope to be a hybrid of a woodland / Asian inspired / relaxing shady retreat.  Some hardscaping (ie river rock, extend the flagstone at the firepit, and renovate the old outdoor kitchen) but mostly planting shade loving plants (read as Hostas) and trees to provide a cozy yard that we will spend a lot of time in.

Gone is the hard black plastic edging, to be replaced with a mix of natural wood log edging, and river rocks.

Also gone, the large dead weeping beech that was removed in the winter.
